A significant portion of the Flinders site will be preserved as open space. A range of parks, from local 'pocket' parks to village greens and playing fields have been designed throughout the neighbourhoods at Flinders to be meeting and recreation spaces for the community. These areas meld with protected natural habitat areas to provide a seamless connection to nature.

The active recreation areas and playing fields in Flinders are typically located between neighbourhoods, as an extension of the school campuses. Parks, located within walking distance of most homes, feature shaded pavilions and seating; while the open plazas generally adjacent to civic buildings provide a useable outdoor space for workers and shoppers to meet.

The Flinders 'Town Farm' located in close proximity to the Town Centre, will feature dedicated community market gardens and provide opportunities to educate the community on urban agriculture practices.
